Two time world 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu returns to IAAF Diamond League action in front of a UK crowd at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on 24 August. After coming back from an injury plagued winter Ohuruogu will be looking keep improving upon her form after her 4x400m relay contributions at the Commonwealth Games and a fourth place finish at the European Championships.
Speaking after her European Championship final and season’s best performance of 51.38s Christine said:
“I'm happy I came. I'm not really surprised about the result; I was in no position to win that. I've not really done the work to support anything faster than what I've done, but it’s OK and I'm totally fine with that.
“I wanted to come out here and enjoy the experience as I've had quite a light year. 2012 and 2013 were hard and there's no way I can go for five years on the trot in my event.”
The British record holder will line up in the 400m against a top class field including IAAF World Indoor 4x400m relay gold medal winner Natasha Hastings, London 2012 4x400m bronze medallist Shericka Williams and Zurich European Championship 4x100m gold medallist Anyika Onuora at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on Sunday 24 August.
The Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix will also welcome world and newly crowned European 5000m and 10,000m gold medallist Mo Farah and Paralympic stars Hannah Cockroft and Jonnie Peacock, who will line up for the Sainsbury’s IPC Grand Prix Final immediately after the IAAF Diamond League meet.
The Sainsbury's Birmingham Grand Prix and IPC Grand Prix Final is the combined finale of the Sainsbury's Series of major British athletics events showcasing the best UK and international sports stars and inspiring young people to take up sport.
